as far as is known, no. Female academics were under something of an Understood obligation ( it was codified in some states) to remain unmarried. Such a biased ideology would be almost certainly struck down surely it is not a hazardous job, but,well reconsidering recent events , that was not the reason. it tied in with the ( Entire sanctification) argument that somehow family life was a handicap and hindrance to a teacher, which has been totally disproved. a cousin of mine taught about 30-odd years and has two children. The argument was based on false pretexts.
