Smaller communities usually have patrol Officers, detectives, dispatchers, and access to major case squads made up of detectives to handle more serious crimes such as multiple homicides.
Detectives or investigators assigned to vice enforement duties are sworn police officers, just like all officers on their department or agency. Their salary is no different from that of any other officer of equal time, rank, or experience.
