In the United States, its illegal to employ minors under the age of 14 in most jurisdictions, unless they are in the entertainment industry. There are also many special rules for minors under the age of 18 in terms of hours, times, etc., depending on the city or state where they work. Its highly unlikely that any employer would be allowed to hire her.

There are many opportunities to teach the value of work by volunteering, and many organizations will allow a 12 year old to volunteer if they are accompanied by a legal guardian at all times.
