This is a bit of a subjective question... But a basic answer might be: the ability to relate to children would most likely be found in one's ability to see the world through their perspective and genuinely (not falsley, or faking-it) engage with them with that perspective in mind.

I'm a YA author, and have had many experiences teaching and tutoring kids.

Any School Teachers or Child Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Counsellors or Therapists out there?
