Billabong or an oxbow. one of those two
All oxbow lakes are formed when a curve of a meandering river gets cut off. There are oxbow lakes along the Amazon River and also the Mississippi River.
An Oxbow lake. It is where a Meander is cut by erosion & the consequent deposition alters the course of the river. The cut off meander forms an Oxbow.
A bend in a river shaped like a loop is called an oxbow. Oxbow lakes are formed when a meander is cut off from the main river channel, often due to erosion and sediment deposition.
A billabong is formed when a river winds so much that it forms a loop, which is then cut off from the river, leaving a long and narrow curved section of water. Billabongs are also referred to as Oxbow lakes
When a loop formed by the curving and winding of a river is isolated from the main channel by erosion or sediment deposition, it creates an oxbow lake. Oxbow lakes are characterized by their curved shape and are typically found near mature rivers.
When a meander is cut off from the main river channel, it creates an oxbow lake. This landform is formed as sediment fills in the former meander loop, isolating it from the river. Over time, the oxbow lake may become a wetland or gradually dry out, depending on the local hydrology.
it is formed when there is a bend in a river and is cut off from the main channel by the force of erosion..
An oxbow lake is formed when a meander erodes. The bend gets a sharper angle, forming a "neck" of land between the two bends of a meander. This will be eroded during flood, as the water is flowing faster over the top of it and into it. After a few floods, the neck will be broken through. The water will now flow through this path. The mouths of the old meander will get blocked up, as the flow at the edge is slower and deposition will occur. When these mouths are blocked up completely, an oxbow lake will have been formed.
A lake created by a river is typically referred to as an oxbow lake. These lakes form when a meandering river creates a loop that is eventually cut off, leaving a curved body of water.
