Yes, although in the United States they are referred to as vet tech (veterinary technicians) or vet assistants rather than veterinary nurses. However, the job is analogous to a nurse's job and duties.
It depends on where you live. Some states have requirements for veterinarian techs; others do not. Some veterinarians expect a certain level of training or a degree, while others will train on the job. You can try the related link attached to this question - this is a Master's thesis proposing a career ladder rather than a formally developed and implemented career ladder. In general, there isn't a formal career ladder for a vet tech - you pick the job you want and either over time gain additional responsibility at that position, or you take a new job that offers more opportunities and responsibility.

Typically it takes 2-3 years to become a Vet Tech. Look for programs accredited by NAVTA to receive either an associate degree or certificate.
Vet techs are essentially what nurses are for medical doctors. You assist the vet and perform some basic duties on your own. Overall, vet techs work to improve the quality of life of their animal patients and their owners.
No, unfortunately, Tarleton does not offer a vet tech program. However, starting Fall of 2011 TSU will begin a Bachelors in Technology with a major in Vet Tech. In order to do this program though, you must already have an associates Vet Tech degree from another school. MCC in Waco offers the Vet Tech Associates degree.
