My understanding of the halo effect is that the image of products in a range can be improved by the reflected glory of another product that range.

For instance, when Apple's iPhone comes out, although it will be a completely new gadget it will already have some credibility from day one due to the "halo effect" of the success of the iPod product that is associated with Apple.
