Data that cannot be changed except at the source. Read only memory contains data that can only be "read" by the processor, or viewed in some way by the end user. When you use a R-CD to store data, for example, you cannot change it while it is on the R-CD. You can change the original source data and copy it onto the R-CD again.

Read-Write CD's, on the other hand, allow data to be manipulated directly on the RW-CD.
