Hi This isn't really an answer, but you are always worth what you can get paid. If you put out an ad for a baby sitter (especially if you are experienced and can provide references to complete strangers trusting you with their kids) and you put it in a high-class local magazine, you will get more than if your Auntie Maureen wants you to look after Kevin for a few hours. I'm not suggesting you want to be a professional babysitter all your life, but at least while you are working you should be working at building up a strong, and preferably affluent client base who will refer you to their affluent friends. Relatives and friends will always take advantage of you for 4 bucks an hour, and I don't know how much rich people make in BC, but if you put in your ad that you charge 10 bucks an hour and you have references and a CPR certificate and you get no calls, that is the market's way of telling you you are asking too much. But, the beauty of the free market is that you can always come down; it's harder to charge more. If you now change your ad and ask for 8 dollars and you are flooded with phone calls, then you know how much you can charge! Phil
