Hotel Ambassador (old school). Consider this scenario. You have a beloved 30 year General Manager, who is very active in the hotel Industry (sits on AHLA, or TRA boards), active in community (Rotary, Chamber, CVB), and has a very personal relationship with owners and VIP clients at the hotel. Lets say that he (or she) is aging and just can't handle the stress of a GM position any more. He still has a useful function at the hotel. You can't just throw him out, so you make him an Ambassador. You pay him a smaller salary, give him an office and let him preform valuable duties for the hotel, other than operations. A list of duties might be,

1. Represent hotel at local functions, civic organizations, volunteer events.

2. Greet and Mingle with Guests/Groups (especially VIPs)

3. Distribute information to radio and other news outlets about hotel.

4. Etc.

5. Coordinate and host employee and Guest special functions.

Ambassador (new meaning) - A gofer/houseman in a large luxury hotel. Someone who can and will do anything needed - unclog toilets, walk you to your car with an umbrella in the rain, Clean up messes in public areas after hours, deliver room service, help guests with luggage, deliver things to rooms (pillows, shampoo, etc).
