Tropic of Cancer?
Three syllables. E-qua-tor.
Equator
The 0 degrees latitude line is called the equator.
Latitude is the measurement of degrees from the equator to the pole so that the pole has a latitude of 90 degrees. Co-latitude is the measurement of degrees from the pole to the equator so that the equator has a latitude of 90 degrees. Also the sum of latitude and co-latitude is always 90 degrees.
The Equator is the latitude line with a given value of 0-degrees. There Equator runs completely around the Earth. There are 360-longitude lines that intersect the Equator.

Latitude is measured and stated in degrees north or south of the equator. Longitude is measured and stated in degrees east or west of the Prime Meridian. If you give me numbers that are accurately measured and clearly stated, I can hit that exact spot, within a few inches, anywhere on the earth.
Latitude is a noun which means distance of a place north or south of the earth's equator or the scope for freedom of action or thought. Example sentences:The equator is at zero degrees latitude. We were given a lot of latitude in they type of media we could use for our assignment.
Latitude and longitude are typically given in degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). These units are used to specify locations on the Earth's surface in terms of their angular distance north or south of the equator (latitude) and east or west of the prime meridian (longitude).
The starting point for measuring latitude is the equator... zero degrees. There are two terminal points of latitude: 90 degrees north (the true north pole, not the magnetic north pole), and; 90 degrees south (the true south pole, not the magnetic south pole). When measuring latitude the reference point is always the equator, and the numbers are given as (for example) North 40 degrees, 16 minutes, 13 seconds... or in the real world of sailboats & ships: "North 40 decimal 16 decimal 13".
