You would, regardless of your degree, spend a lot of time writing. Many people choose the English Literature/Creative Writing route. There are also courses in technical writing, editing and grammar that might also prove to be useful in your degree plan.

To be a writer, you could major in English or Journalism, or complete an English Major with a minor in Journalism. During college, you can work with any club or group that issues a newsletter or join the college newspaper staff.

Note that writing for newspapers differs from creative genres. So pursue English and creative writing if that holds your interest more.
