S-190: Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior

Can anyone give me info on wildland firefighters any info would be helpful?

These firefighters are based out of many states in the US. There are many in Oregon and Washington. They need to pass a hard physical fitness test to even start training to fight fires. Then they need to take a class to teach them all the things they will need to know to fight fires. It is a weeks worth of 10 hour classes. If they pass all of the above tests and score well on the other tests then they can be a wildfire fighter. Depending where you live, if there are any volunteer fire departments that you can join, they will give you the basic wildland firefighting classes you need. Which is S-130 (Basic Wildland Firefighting) and S-190 (Basic Weather, Fuel, and Topography). The is the minimum you need to become a wildland firefighter. If you want to work for a State or Federal, there will be a Pack Test. The Pack Test usually means walking three miles while wearing a 45 pound vest. You have 45 minutes to complete the three miles and running is not allowed.

What are some environmental factors which affect wildland fire behavior?

Several environmental factors significantly influence wildland fire behavior, including weather conditions, topography, and fuel availability. Weather elements such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and precipitation can either exacerbate or mitigate fire intensity and spread. Topography, including slope and aspect, affects how fires move, with steeper slopes often facilitating faster fire progression. Additionally, the type, arrangement, and moisture content of vegetation (fuel) play critical roles in determining how easily fires ignite and how quickly they spread.
