20 + years in Tax and I never heard of them.

They are one of many professional organizations that claim to assist and represent tax professionals. They may well, I really coudn't say. I would bet that any of their credentialed members...credentials being degrees an or CPA, Lawyer, etc., care much more about those accrediting groups than this.

Their guidelines are their own, and like any group are done according to their own by laws. Generally requiring some board of directors actions and maybe a membership vote on somethings. It does not need to be joint with anyone....they have no special control or influence over anyone other than their own paid, voluntary members.
