Most houses in the desert are painted white as white reflects the heat and does not allow for the walls to absorb it. On the other hand a black house would absorb all heat and the house would be a lot hotter then if it was painted white.
because white relfects heat meaning that inside the homes will be kept relatively cool. that's why in any country that has a relatively hot climate most of the houses are white or similar pale colours

No, not at all. In the 1800's paint was very expensive and most houses were wooden unpainted houses. After the British burned the White House in 1812 it was painted white to cover the burn marks on the wood ( they just did some work on it and found some of the burn marks still on it) and because it stood out people started using the term "white house" to mean the house that was painted white. It could have been any color if colored paint had existed then, but only white was made. So, the term for the president's house became the "white house" and still today we all know what house that it is just by that name.
white, cream whitish
The answer to this question has many parts. Houses in the desert vary greatly depending on which desert is being spoken of. For example, houses in Las Vegas are fully furnished and made from wood and various other construction materials. On the other hand houses in third world countries situated in the desert are most probably built from hardened mud, rocks may have been mixed in to give more support.
