The film badges (radiation dosimeters) indicate if a pilot has been exposed to higher levels of ionizing radiation, as from cosmic rays at high altitudes, or from other sources. Limiting the periodic exposure prevents unsafe effects on the flight personnel. Most US pilots now use a different device, a thermoluminescent detector or TLD. So for short: Because they work at high altitudes, pilots are exposed to high levels of background radiation from cosmic rays. To monitor their radiation exposure, pilots wear film badges.
Airplane pilots wear film badges to monitor their exposure to ionizing radiation during flights, particularly at high altitudes where cosmic radiation levels are elevated. These badges help ensure that pilots do not exceed safe radiation exposure limits, thereby protecting their health. Additionally, tracking radiation exposure is essential for compliance with safety regulations and for maintaining a safe working environment in aviation.

we wear badges in our society to take pride in you being a member of a group or team.
Dental assistants are typically not required to wear film badges because they are usually not exposed to significant levels of radiation during their work. Unlike dental radiologists or technicians who frequently operate X-ray equipment, dental assistants primarily assist in procedures and maintain a safe environment, which involves minimal radiation exposure. Regulations may vary by location, but many dental practices follow safety guidelines that mitigate radiation risks, reducing the need for monitoring devices like film badges.
Uniformed street officers do not wear cute clothes with their badges. However, detectives are allowed to wear professional but cute clothes with their badges.

I work for a County Detention Center and we wear badges. Our badges are the exact same ones that the road deputies wear, because we are considered Specialized Deputies. Some Detention Centers or prisons may not require a badge at all. This is up to the county/state the facility is in.
The film in the badges changes colour when radiation hits it. By looking at the badges, the people wearing them can tell how much radiation they have been exposed to. They have different strips of film for different types of radiation, so they are not only able to tell how much radiation someone has been exposed to, but also what type of radiation. Its basically a safety measure to ensure that workers are not exposed to excessive levels of radiation emitted from the waste.
