A prison sentence of 8 to 25 years is often referred to as an indeterminate sentence. 1991 was convicted of 1st dg murder attempted received 17 years served 8 years in 2007 a vop for dirty urine received 25 years can this be fair sentence in Florida?

The question calls for an opinion - not a fact-based answer - so I will give you my opinion. Parole and probation is NOT a 'get out of jail free' card. You were given a 17 year sentence - served 9 - and got a break with parole for the remaining 8 - but apparently just couldn't stay clean. 25 years for dirty urine DOES sound 'over-the-top' to me, but it's far greater than just a simple VOP sentence, which would usually be simply going back to serve the remainder of your original sentence. THis 25 year sentence leads me to believe that you're not telling the whole story, and my conclusion is that the 25 year sentence was for far more than peeing a bad test!

How much time is served on a 8 yr sentence?

It depends. Typically, a sentence includes the amount of time to serve in confinement and a portion to be served on probation. For example, and 8 year sentence may be called "8 do 5." In that case, the convicted would serve 5 years in confinement followed by 3 years on probation. Further, some sentences are eligible for a reduction in time. This may range anywhere from "3 for 1 good time credit" where a defendant receives credit for three days for each day served to 90% of the full sentence.
