Automobile patrols allow officers to cover a large precinct, but you are usually going to fast to notice details, (in addition, the driver also needs to care about his driving). A light motorbike patrol allows officers to stray in parking lots, while they would not get off a patrol car for lack of convenient parking or other reasons. Contact and communication with people in the neighbourhood is greatly reduced, so officers may lose valuable information. The public being less able to interact with officers cannot ask them to have a look at this or that, or simply to listen to them, lose confidence in the policing methods (foot or bike patrols have a very positive impact regarding interaction with the public).
