Most times the agreement is that the child will be supported through college. If they turn 18 and do not continue with school, then child support ends.
not unless it is back support...you have to motion the court to have it stopped
Back dated to what if it's being stopped?
Depends on your state.
Depends. Legal age of emancipation, for child support purposes, is 21 in MS. Meaning that you are obligated to pay child support until the child reaches 21. Exceptions do apply such as, the child getting married or moving out on his/her own, not maintaining a full time student status or joins the military full time before the age of 21, then child support, by order of the courts, can possibly be stopped.
Some child support agreements don't have a age limit in them and if that is the case here, you have to read yours, you have to go back to court and fix it. If 18 was set as a limit you have to contact them when the child turns 18 so it stops.
Go to court house with a certified copy of the child's birth certificate a few weeks or a month before their 21st birthday and they will get the child support stopped.
