Can I marry someone in a different state if im already married to someone else?

NO it is Illegal! It is called Bigamey and it is against the law in all 50 states. Until you are legally divorced from the fist spouse you can not remarry. They can find out when you do your taxes along with other methods . I belive it is a federal law . Just a question ? Why would you want to Marry more then one person? I am married and I think one is enough. If you are unhappy then file for divorce and start over.

No. You would need to apply for a marriage license in which you attest to your marital status. The license would not be issued if you are already married. If you succeeded in obtaining a marriage license by some fraudulent means, the second "marriage" would be invalid since you are already married.

FIRST of all, I am pretty sure when you get married in ANY state in the US you are considered married in all states, so I am not sure WHY you would be asking to marry the same person in another state. Just like if you were married to someone in one state and went to another state...you are STILL married until you get that thing called a D-I-V-O-R-C-E. If you are married in one state and go to another state and marry a DIFFERENT person, that is called BIGAMY and it is illegal. SECOND, if you are already married to someone you cannot 're-marry' them, I am almost positive this is called RENEWING YOUR VOWS.

Why? The second state will recognize the first marriage. You can have a ceremony if you wish, as many times as you wish, but to get legally married you have to get a license and they ask you if you are currently married.

It isn't like you would need to get two divorces.

However, if the first marriage is a same-sex marriage, and the second marriage is in a state that doesn't recognize same-sex marriage, then the situation is much murkier. The state of the first marriage will treat the first marriage as valid and the second one as bigamous, but the other state will treat the first marriage as non-existent and the second one as valid.

If you are already married the only way you could get married to someone else is to divorce your current spouse and then marry the other person.
