since the legal age in Michigan to stay home alone is 12, i believe that the legal age for babysitting is also 12.

Well you can answer these questions: Are they responsible? Are they trustworthy? Are they respectful? Do they take pride in themselves? Are they caring? Are they fair with others? (if babysitting) If mostly Yes to these questions your child is ready to stay home alone. If mostly No to these questions your child is not recommended to stay home alone.

I myself am 12 and went to a babysitting coarse by the RedCross and i know for a fact that it is legal to stay home alone AND babysit at the age of 12, but no younger.

well a 10 year old to me can be left alone if they feel comfortable enough to but if there not responsible probaly only a half hour
