So long as there is no order restraining the adult from associating with the minor then there should be no problem. If however the parent's or guardian of the minor do not approve of the relationship then they can probably stop you from having contact with that minor.

By the way the nature of the texting was flirtatious at times but other than that strictly friendly. They never met in person and never really intended on meeting in person. Can either of them go to jail or get in trouble for having nice conversations?

As long as it's not sexual the adult is safe, she's the one who would get into trouble. But you really should let your parents know. This is after all how pedophiles starts. Your parents wants to protect you so if you are having a new friend who is an adult it is good if they know so they wont freak out in case they find out by accident. That can lead to restraining orders and all kinds of bad.
