Can a 17-year-old date a 14-year-old in Texas?

Dating is not legislated in any state. But any sexual contact is and it would be illegal. And why a 17 year old about to graduate from high school wants to date someone in junior high is beyond me. There is only one reason I can think of and it is illegal.

unless you two have sex

because the law is that you cannot date someone three years older then you unless you are eighteen

if you have sex with this person it will be counted as rape and you will go to jail

There are no dating laws in Texas. As far as sex, it is illegal for anyone to have sex with someone under 17 UNLESS:

1 there is no more than 3 years age difference

2 not a registered sex offender

3 the victim must be 14 or older

5 of opposite sex.

So if the girl is not a registered sex offender, then it is legal (know as an affirmative defense) for them to have sex.

Date? yes you can date any one you want. but even kissing between a 17 year old and 13 year old would be a crime.

I believe so just as long as the person isn't 18, but 17 is still a minor
