If a person is hiding the truth, they are not being completely honest about something. If a person is lying, they are intentionally deceiving others by saying something they know is not true.
So as not to hurt; it's hard to love someone when you know you are hurting them, and people do resort to lying. It's not easy being a lover. Or in a relationship.
