The prohibition against convicted felons owning firearms is contained in the portion of Title 18 of the U.S. Code, which addresses the possession of firearms by convicted felons, and does specifically include black powder arms.

To the the best of my knowledge it does not disallow ownership of GENUINE (i.e.: REAL) antique firearms. The fact that they may be shipped and dealt with without regard to signatures or background checks is in another portion of federal law what does NOT address criminal possession. The federal CRIMINAL Code DOES make them unlawful for a convicted felon to own or possess.
