Indeed if you are found with a gun but without a license you would be arrested. Its easy to be arrested someone i knew was arrested because he had a hammer in his van the police arrested him for carrying an offesive weapon but the thing is he is a builder.
Actually, the answer is, it depends on where you are. In some states in the U.S. you can carry a handgun on your person without a gun permit. As a general rule, when you hear about some professional athelete that gets arrested for that, it's in New York. In the city of New York, you cannot carry a handgun without a permit, and it's virtually impossible for the average person to obtain a permit there.
