California is one example where they have a training program with unemployment and also allow unemployment while a student under other programs, but you need to check it out and/or contact them for details. Check the Related Link regarding edd.ca below. Other states may have similar programs, so check out other state's web sites.
Please note the use of the word encourage with regard to the labor department encouraging states to modernize their rules. Attending school while on unemployment , unless approved, is a reason to stop your benefits.
The measures to encourage the states to change some of the rules and what rules have been changed so far can be found at the United States Department of Labor.
This is very doubtful. To collect unemployment you must, usually, be unemployed due to no fault of your own. While going back to school is an admirable idea, it is still attributable to you that you are unemployed. Beyond that, unemployment always requires that you be ready, willing, and able to work, and going to school - especially full-time - typically prevents you from meeting this qualification.
No because nobody is going to fire you because you have a cold. You have to be totally out of work to collect unemployment and not just out sick.

In general, no. In order to collect unemployment, you must be seeking employment, and accepting it when found. While in prison, that's not going to happen.
You can not collect unemployment if you are retired or working.
No. If you are a school student, or officially registered as a university or college student, you cannot collect unemployment. Different countries may have different rules. For example, in some countries, if you are eligible for employment under normal circumstances, meaning that you were terminated through no fault of yours, you may be eligible for unemployment while you return to school. It is best to call your corresponding unemployment office before making any life-changing decisions.
Retiring is not an acceptable reason to qualify for unemployment benefits, especially if your retirement means you are not going to be ready, willing and actively seeking employment - (criteria for eligibility).
The regulations vary by state, but in California you are able to collect unemployment and attend school, but only if you're going to school part-time or if you're going to school full-time, but online. Regardless, you will still need to fill out claim forms and "look for work." Also, there are certain training programs you can attend that are state approved, such as Truck Driving school, Nursing school etc. and you will be able to collect full benefits without having to look for work. Other training programs may be acceptable, such as, a fire or police academy, but those you will have to call EDD to verify approval. In other jurisdictions it would not be allowable. Unemployment benefits are meant to support you while you search for a replacement job, not to subsidize your education." However, if you are still looking for work while attending school, it may be allowed. Call your local unemployment office to learn of the policies in your area.A personal experience:As a resident of California who is currently collecting unemployment after massive layoffs in my field (developing sustainable building materials) due to the Wall Street collapse of 2008, I am going back to school part time in the evenings and continuing to collect UE benefits. My classes do not interfere with my ability to look for and/or accept full time work.I called the EDD and explained my situation first. It was a headache to get through but worth it. Also, the EDD has some very specific information regarding attending school and collecting benefits. This excellent information can be found in the Related Link below.
I only know that on the continuation of benefits form (if you've filed for and been granted unemployment insurance) asks "Did you begin attending any school or training?" If you answer "yes", they'll set up a phone appointment to talk to you and see if you're still eligible. Maybe if you were already going to school when you got fired, you could still collect unemployment, but if you start after being fired, it seems questionable.
The company's going bankrupt should not affect your getting unemployment, The company paid (or should have) unemployment taxes to the state who, in turn, pays the benefits to claimants. Therefore it is the state you look to for relief.
that make any sense at all. I was approved to go back to school I picked a program in the WIA program, was approved have my voucher started school. Then didn't receive my unemployment check I called unemployment and they told me because I started school a judicature officer will have to contact me to see if I still can collect unemployment. No where on the WIA website does it say sign up for school and we stop your unemployment, matter of fact when you are on hold forever trying to talk to someone on unemployment there is a recording regarding WIA and going back to school.. my question to the GOV Charlie Crist is how are we supposed to even go to school if we have no gas money to get there or we can't pay our rent electric how can they stop my unemployment,, No one can answer this question. I was in ST Pete times page 6, Sept 16th they did an article I was in the article. I have had ABC action news call Tallahassee regarding this, another editor is also monitoring this issue,, being penalized for going back to school under a gov grant for the unemployed, , and also when you go to unemployment website also takes you to the WIA program,, this WIA program is great if it works together with unemployment. One more thing when you sign up for WIA you sign a contract and how can you fill that contract and go to school if you have no money to pay for gas to get there,,,, this makes no sense I am waiting for a call back from Gov Charlie Crist office for someone there to give me answers but no comply yet.. I have written to 20 different official offices for help regarding this, it is the media that is also trying to find out and help me.. It will take 4 yo 6 weeks for a judicature to call me from unemployment, this whole thing is a big joke, no body cares, you are set up to fail before you even start.. why give me a WIA grant then cut off unemployment, I am a single mother of 2 children not a dime of child support now no unemployment, was laid off after 8 years and 7 months with a company,, no one can justify why unemployment does this I was told these are the rules..
outside,after.
