Name-calling is not actionable unless it results in some type of loss or defamation of character.

Also, the person offended would be the one to take the name-caller to court.

HOWEVER, just because name-calling is usually not an actionable case in a court of law, it doesn't make it right or moral. No matter what slang or shortened version of the slur, it still means the same thing. When one person uses slurs or calls names about another person, it is intended to hurt the person. Most slurs and names hurt a person's character AND reputation. Imagine being called something that is untrue about you, based solely on how you look, dress, act, talk, or even who you hang out with each day. Name-calling is bullying, plain and simple. It's wrong, and a Court of Law does not need to intervene to tell us how wrong it is.
