Appellate court.
Not all cases appealed to an appellate court are heard by the appellate court. In such cases the verdict delivered by the lower court of original jurisdiction will stand.

Appealed
The Supreme Court hears three kinds of cases. Cases appealed from lower federal courts account for two-thirds of the cases they hear. They also hear cases appealed from state's supreme courts, and sometimes hear cases that have not been previously heard by a lower court, such as between one state's government and another.
Lower courts are where cases are initially started. If they are appealed, they are taken to higher courts.
Federal cases are heard in federal courts and involve violations of federal laws or the U.S. Constitution, while state cases are heard in state courts and involve violations of state laws. Federal cases typically involve issues that affect the entire country, while state cases are more localized and deal with issues specific to that state. Additionally, federal cases can be appealed to higher federal courts, while state cases can be appealed to higher state courts.
It depends on the setup of your state's judicial system. In some states, cases heard by a magistrate or other lower court can be appealed to a court of common pleas, or "general trial court". Generally, however, cases are appealed to appellate courts and not to trial courts.
The Virginia Supreme Court receives a significant number of appeals annually, but it only hears a small percentage of them. Typically, the Court hears about 5-10% of the cases that are appealed. This low percentage is due to the Court's limited capacity and its focus on cases that involve substantial legal questions or issues of public interest.
Yes, appeals courts hear cases that are being appealed from lower court decisions. That's what they are for.

The majority of cases heard in the Federal Circuit are held in the various US District Courts. The few that are appealed go forward to the US Circuit Courts of Appeal.
