Do Jehovah's Witnesses participate in labor unions?

There is no interdiction on joining Trade Unions for Jehovah's Witnesses. While this would be an personal choice each witnesses would make, the highly politicized nature of many Trade Unions may limit the type of activities the Witnesses would in good conscience engage in or contribute to, since Witnesses are politically neutral.

There can, therefore, be no objection to a Christian's merely belonging to a labor union, paying the dues and heeding the call to stop work in the event of a strike.-Rom. 12:17; 1 Tim. 5:8.

However, a Christian should not get involved in union activity to the extent of holding an official position in the union. Nor, in the event of a strike, should he take part in picketing or in other ways agitate for the cause of the strike. Above all, he should not engage in violence in labor disputes, for "a slave of the Lord does not need to fight." "If possible, as far as it depends upon you, be peaceable with all men." Just as a Christian is neutral regarding politics and wars of his country, so the union member who is a Christian does not get involved in the governing activities and economic warfare of the union but must remain neutral.-2 Tim. 2:24; Rom. 12:18.

So the answer is maybe. Because NOT of what the watcher said in an article, but what The Bible says about treating those that do evil to you. As quoted, "return evil for evil to no one" this would mean voting to strike or not would amount to returning injury. ON THE OTHER HAND, Just like two men making a contract on how where and when the work is to be done, union leaders represent you the worker and they are asking you do you agree with the contract they are ready too sign. So how does the bible feel about contracts and agreements between workers? it ENDORSES such a thing. So it depents on what the vote is asking of you. if its to do harm to someone, no. The Real question here is what is your view of "jehovahs witnesses?" They are not some groul making up Dos and donts cuz they have nothing better to do. They look at life, and see where the bible has examples and how god dealt with it, then act accordingly. They dont have some issue with voting for any topic! Regarding political things they dont have any vote at all NOR an opinion. they believe as did the jews of the bible regarding political things. if you want to know what jws believe, look in whatever translation and see how the jews behaved when God approved of their actions regarding listening and siding with political parties for salvation (financial or spiritual) In that way, you can find your answers for ANY topic regarding witnesses.
