Breathalyzer tests are designed to approximate blood alcohol content. There is no quick test to determine whether someone is under the influence of marijuana; typically blood tests or urine tests are used to determine the presence of marijuana and other drugs in the system. These tests do not work in the same way as a breathalyzer or blood alcohol test, though, because alcohol passes out of your system quickly, while the indicators for marijuana may show up weeks after the last use. Thus, the test doesn't actually show whether or not you are currently under the influence of marijuana. That doesn't mean you're "safe", though--at least one state has interpreted its drugged driving statute to mean driving with any trace of an illegal drug in your system...meaning that even if it's been days since you used marijuana, you could face criminal charges and lose your license if you are stopped and tested.

Will carbon monoxide show up when you have to blow in a machine and you have smoked marijuana?

no, unless you blow smoke into the machine, carbon monoxide is about as prevalent in cigarette smoke as weed smoke. What make it bad for you is it's high reactivity which also makes it not last long in your body. There aren't any breathalyzers for weed as far as I know, all the metabolites that you can test for are dilute and not volatile enough to be present in your breath as alcohol is.

Can my driver's license be suspended in California for refusing a Breathalyzer?

If you're a DUI suspect, you should have the option between a blood test and a breathalyzer test. I would opt for the blood test because breathalyzers aren't always accurate and can really screw you over.
