Sovereign means "a supreme ruler" when used as a noun. Synonyms are monarch, ruler, king, lord and potentate.

As an adjective, sovereign means "Possessing supreme or ultimate power:" Synonyms are paramount, supreme, independent.

With the above definitions in mind, individual citizens are not, nor can they be, sovereign. Some say the will of the people is sovereign, but actually, our Constitution is supposed to be supreme (sovereign) in the United States.

There are those; however, who believe otherwise.

How to become a sovereign citizen in the US:

1. Find an abandoned piece of privately owned land, or obtain the permission of the owner of unused acreage.
2. Sell everything you own, everything. Give the resulting funds to your family and friends, or charity.
3. Have someone transport you to the selected piece of land.
4. Strip completely naked.
5. Walk on to your new 'home' and start your life from scratch.

You can't actually divest yourself completely from organized society, you will be taking your education and immunizations with you. You can't sell or strip those from yourself. But get as close nothing as you can.

Or, you can fake it and take 'things', products of society, with you, use public land and just claim to be sovereign.

Therein lies one flaw, because everyone is subject to the law, whether they like it or not. To be a sovereign citizen is to be outside the law, but no one is outside the law.
