Florida has changed its law. Both of you now must go to the county court house and apply together. They no longer let you take the license to the prison, or at least did not the last time I was there checking. Also, the last time I checked, they did not give prisoners passes to get out of prison to get married.

In past years it was possible for a person to get married in the chapel on visiting days. The legislature changed that. Those days are gone.

How do you marry a prison inmate in Alabama?

Well, honey, to marry a prison inmate in Alabama, you gotta fill out some paperwork, get approval from the warden, and have a ceremony either inside the prison or at a designated location. Just make sure you're ready for a lifetime of conjugal visits and phone calls that may or may not be monitored. Good luck, lovebirds!

Can a prison inmate in Florida file for divorce without going to courtwhat about the cost of the divorcehow can he pay?

The inmate has to ask for a law clerk to first draw up the papers, be sure to include an "indignet" (not sure on spelling) paper. The divorce papers and the other form are then submitted to the clerk of the court in the county in which that inmate is residing ( for instance if he were at Polk C.I. he'd send them to Bartow). I believe the fee is $1.00. I know for a spouse to file to divorce an inmate the cost is a dollar.

Can an inmate who received a life sentence contest a divorce in Florida?

The State of Florida is a no-fault divorce state, meaning the court will not assign fault to either party for the divorce. Neither spouse can prevent the other from obtaining a divorce. Marriage is not a prison and an inmate who is incarcerated for life cannot impose a life sentence on their spouse. She/he has the right to move on with their life. The inmate does not have to consent to the divorce.
