How do you become a member of a local council?

By running for the election held every 3 years. They must be knoledgeable in the law and the things that the Local Government (for that is what they are running in and for), do for the people. When the 'Notice of Election' is published prior to a local election, you must obtain an election nomination form from the electoral registration officer. When you have filled in the required sections, you must return it within strict time limits in order to appear on a ballot paper. Once all nominations are in, then a 'Notice of Poll' will appear in your neighbourhood. If you win the poll, you will be elected as a local councillor.
