If the freeloader is not a relative and you have asked politely for him to leave with no results, call the sheriff. Sheriff's deputies will usually assist you in removing someone from your house. If the person has been living with you, you may need to go through the formal eviction process to have them removed.

If the freeloader is a relative, consider a mini-intervention, held by a few close relatives, both young and more experienced at life. Explain that you cannot afford to have a non-contributing member of the household any longer. Make sure you have your act together, with a timetable for the person to contribute or get out, plus a list of the house rules. If you have already done this intervention, use the non-relative approach above. You will not be popular with the rest of your family if you call the sheriff, but sometimes you just have to do this kind of thing.
