It is a violation of federal law (US Code, Title 18) for a convicted felon to ever own or possess a firearm. Some states (but by no means all) have a mechanism where a convicted felon might regain a limited access to firearms, but you must have been convicted of a state crime, NOT A FEDERAL CRIME, and submit the proper required applications. Check your state laws carefully. Even if you do get it restored to you, they it will not be honored outside your home state and you can be arrested.

--------

It is up to the individual state where you live. If a pardon is obtained some states may reinstate your gun owning rights.

If you are a federally convicted felon there is no way. No mechanism exists to restore firearm rights to convicted federal felons. If you are state convicted - it depends entirely on which state you live in and/or which state convicted you. SOME states will restore limited firearm rights - others will not restore them at all.Your best course of action is contact an attorney in your state for consultation.

How does a convicted felon get his rights back in Florida?

In Florida, a convicted felon can have their voting rights restored through the clemency process, specifically by applying for restoration of voting rights after completing their prison sentence, parole, or probation. For non-violent offenses, this process was simplified in 2018 with the passage of Amendment 4, allowing automatic restoration of rights after completing their sentence. However, individuals with certain disqualifying offenses, such as murder or sexual offenses, must still seek clemency to regain their rights. It’s essential for applicants to ensure all conditions of their sentence, including fines and restitution, are met before applying.
