Over the last 200 years, the national government has gained power through various means, including the expansion of federal authority via constitutional amendments, Supreme Court rulings, and legislative acts. Key events, such as the Civil War and the New Deal, significantly increased federal intervention in areas like civil rights and economic regulation. Additionally, the rise of a more complex society and global challenges has led to increased reliance on federal governance to address issues that state governments are ill-equipped to handle. This trend reflects a shift towards a more centralized government in response to evolving societal needs.
One power that the national government has gained is the ability to regulate interstate commerce. This authority, derived from the Commerce Clause in the U.S. Constitution, has expanded the federal government's role in economic activities across state lines, allowing it to implement regulations that affect trade, transportation, and communication. Over the years, this power has been interpreted broadly, enabling the national government to address various issues, including labor standards and environmental protections.
First, the people are represented by Senators and Congressmen. Second, the question of whether or not the Constitution gave the Federal Government too much power is debatable. The constitution mainly provides for the organization of the Branches of Government and restrictions on its power. The Federal Government tends to assume the power to give the people what it assumes they want. The Federal Government has gained power over the years. It is debatable what powers the constitution gave the Federal Government.

Three sources of the major bureaucratic power are size, expertise and delegation of power. As the USA has grown in size, the budget of the bureaucracy has as well, and money has a lot of influence in the world today. In our 300 plus years of being the United States, the people in power have gained more and more expertise in the government as the years go on, which helps the bureaucracy to make good decisions when it comes to its power. The bureaucracy also has delegated its power to a wide array of agencies, which has only expanded its influence over the years.
