It's pretty much the same in any state. At 15.5 you need to go to driver's training school. Once you pass the written test you will have to have a permit for 6 months before you can get licensed. NO passegers during your driving and the licensed driver has to be 25 years or older. Also, you will need to drive another 6 months without any passengers once you get your license.
In New Jersey it's the same as it is in Pennsylvania, you need to have the 6 months and 50 hours worth of driving in order to get your license.
A learner's permit is valid for 18 months.
