Inspect the item carefully for a signature on the front and/or identifying information ON THE BACK. Take it to a museum and speak with a docent. Take it to an antique dealer whose specialty is ship's sketches. Was the ship itself old in the sketch, or is the sketch itself old and how do you know this? -These factors will influence your search for the truth. Good Luck!
