There are many places in the world where child labour is the only way to survive for some families and societies.

The western idea of placing restrictions on the time and type of work that children can do is comparatively new and certainly not universal by any means.

Even some 'Western' owned companies sanction such practices but do not advertise the fact, many of their goods are produced cheaply using this method.
