It depends entirely on your local zoning laws.
They vary so widely it would be impossible to get a meaningful answer here, without more detail as to where you live.

That depends on how close to the property line you are allowed to build, how far from the street does the house need to be, if there are any easements on the property and the maximum number of floors for which the area is zoned.
As near as I can see, 15 feet from the side property lines. That is the standard in most places, with a 20 foot setback from the back. The front varies greatly, even by neighborhood.

Zoning rules vary from state to state and community to community. You will have to check your local ordinances. In New Jersey it is 10 ft. The default in Michigan is 15 feet on the sides and 30 feet on the front and back.
15 feet
yes you can but you have to be careful where the foundation wall sits. And the thickness of the footing has to be doubled and the projection cannot be on the other property.
well one way to do it would be to to take your total area and divide it by the measurement of one side. for istance my property is 200 feet wide and i own 3 acres of land. an acre is 43560 sqare feet. 43560sqft X 3 acres is 130,680 square ft. so to find how far back my property line is i take 130,680 sqft divided by 200 feet across=? my back property line is aproximately 653.4 feet back from the front property line... sheesh
A building line is a distance from the street or edge of your lot that you cannot build in. A building line can be in the front, side and rear yards. You can find building lines by looking at your property survey or the title policy you received when you purchased the property. For example, if you see a line running accross the front yard on your survey that says building line, you cannot build between that line and the street in front of your property. You can only get permission from your local municipality to build beyond the building line if the municipality was the body who placed building lines on your property. If your developer created the building line when he filed the plat of subdivision with the county, and your neighbors have not violated the building line, then most likely you will not be able to build beyond that line.
