Most countries around the world have set legal marriageable ages. Most of them have set the marriageable age at 18, however, the ages vary from 15 to 21, depending on the country. Many countries allow marriage at a younger age with parental permission.

In the United States the legal age is 18 years old in most states except in Nebraska where you must be 19 years old and Mississippi where you must be 21 years old. In most states you can legally get married at age 16 with parental permission, however, it is age 15 in many states and age 17 in Indiana, Nebraska, and Washington.

Religion also plays a part as some religions have their own guidelines for marriageable ages.
