The UK does not really have a representative political system. The UK has a system whereby a majority chooses the government. The losing party could have 100% of the vote in the districts where their candidates won and 49% of the votes in the districts where their candidates lost. Thus A party with 74% of the vote might not have a voice in the government!

This will change when the House of Lords becomes a totally elected body. In Lords, party affiliation does not matter. Each person votes on each piece of legislation. The only problem will be that Commons will still have the ability to reject the changes made by Lords, the Representative Body.
