I would say yes, bring your paycheck to the DMV because you are an adult by law.
The DMV wants to know are you a responsible adult, or will you drive without insurance
so go to AAA insurance, they will do the DMV application in the Insurance office and
for $50 will start a policy on your borrowed car or ask the car owner about his insurance.
Tell your folks, if they can help you perhaps. I accidentally put my age ahead at 20
and became 21 thanks to the DMV, also call the DMV and they will treat you like royalty
if you can keep an appointment then set one on the phone and arrive 20 minutes early!
