In most states, if you purchased the stolen item from a dealer who normally does business in that commodity, you acquire clear title to the item. Firearms can be treated differently in some states.

The biggest problem is that if you are caught with the stolen gun, you will be a suspect in its theft. You will also be a suspect in any crimes that may have been committed with it. That could lead to questioning, 48 hour holds, search warrants, and all kinds of things you don't want. If you don't have the right to possess a gun, it gets much worse for you. So if you bought a stolen gun, the best thing you can do is return it to the rightful owner.
