direct democracy: a government in which citizens rule directly instead of through representatives.
A pure democracy has the people themselves making decisions by majority vote. When representatives of those people are used instead of the people themselves, it is a republican form of government.
The first known example of democracy was in Ancient Athens, where they had a direct democracy where instead of electing representatives the people represented themselves.
Direct democracy is when the voters themselves hold the power. For instance, instead of having one person (a representative) present an idea to the governing body, regular people themselves propose bills and then vote on it, instead of having a group of representatives propose and vote on bills.
A direct democracy is a form of government in which citizens participate directly in decision-making processes, rather than through elected representatives. This can involve voting on specific policy issues or laws through referendums or other mechanisms, instead of relying on representatives to make decisions on their behalf.
From what I understand, a direct democracy is just like a democratic republic but without the middle people. In other words, instead of voting for people who vote for people to vote for people, you vote directly, so I think a president rules but the way of voting is different. Everybody. Direct democracy means you vote directly on the issues instead of through representatives.
Nothing. We are talking about different historical periods, different societies and different institutions. In the ancient days there were kings and emperors, which the US do not have. When there was democracy, it was different. It was direct democracy, whereas the US and other modern democracies use indirect democracy. Direct democracy means that instead of electing representatives to vote on laws, people voted on bills themselves (directly) by gathering in popular assemblies to vote.
