The item descibed appears to be permitted under NJ law, but is defined as a handgun- since it is not fired "from the shoulder". Purchasing a firearm in NJ requires a purchase permit. Rifles or shotguns may be purchsed at 18, 21 for others- and this IS an "other". The link below will take you to the NJ firearms code. Federal law also requires that you be 21 to purchase a firearm other than a rifle or shotgun from a dealer.
Added: The weapon described above must fall within the federal guidelines of a MINIMUM barrel length of 18 inches (measured fron the barrel end of the breech to the tip of the crown at the muzzle) and a MINIMIM overal length of 26 inches (measured from the very end of the stock to the tip of the crown at the muzzle).
These specifications leave scant room for modification or error, even using commercially available parts. Altering it in ANY fashion so that it does not meet these guidleines makes it a "sawed-off" weapon. It is violation of federal law to make, own or possess one.

A pistol grip designed for a Mossberg 500 may not fit a Western Field 550 shotgun, as the two firearms have different designs and specifications. While both may share some similarities, such as being pump-action shotguns, their compatibility depends on specific mounting points and dimensions. It's best to check the manufacturer's specifications or consult with a gunsmith to ensure proper fit and function.
