Answer
Is is morally wrong and shows poor character but most likely it is not a criminal act. However, depending on the circumstances you may be able to take them to court by filing a civil complaint in court. If it's not a huge sum of money, you can take them to small claims court or justice court. Go to your local justice of the peace and find out what you need to do to file a claim against someone. If you freely gave the money with no promise of being paid back by the person there's probably nothing you can do. Learn from it and dont' let someone do that to you again. If you're in a relationship, especially a fairly new one, and someone starts asking you for money, be careful. If you've been in the relationship for a while and you love each other then it's okay to help each other out some but if someone starts saying they love you and immediately starts asking for money I would be careful what you do. There are a lot of people out there who have no problem with conning money off of other people so you need to be careful when someone starts asking you for things and use your instincts to guide you.
