It's a good idea, though maybe after they are appointed they could be subject to a recall vote from the legislative branch. If there is no vote within a certain time frame then the appointment should stand. Appointing judges helps to fill the positions more quickly and to cut down on the judicial work load. It would take a lot of extra time and work if each one was instead elected by everyday citizens.
