Yes, assault and battery is a crime. and not only that it is also wrong from every perspective moral , religious any perspective you mention it IT IS WRONG . he is your father no matter what he did ( well maybe if he abandoned you than you should beat him up than not only cause he hurt you but also your mom) otherwise no man its not cool . my dad used to beat me up daily real talk with a belt , with a wire his fists u name it but guess what right or wrong i learned my lessons and in a weird way i thank him cause i know he would give his life for me
